The Irish Mrs. Jordan in the character of Hypolita, engraved and published by John Jones after the portrait painted by John Hoppner; exhibited in 1791.


Having arrived in England she became the mistress to the Duke of Clarence with whom she lived for 20 years bearing him 10 illegitimate children. As London's leading comic actress she continued her acting career, supporting the profligate Duke with he considerable income.


This wonderful mezzotint, fine in all respects, is a joy to behold.


Framed within a fine replica of an eighteenth century print frame.
