Item Details

The earliest recorded works by Robert Street are four bells cast in 1749 for Cheddon Fitzpaine, (Somerset) and marked Bayley & Street. Thereafter he is seen to be in partnership with Thomas Bayley until Bayley's death in 1773. They both appear in the 1754 Bridgewater Register of Electors as Braziers & Bell Founders. It is thought that these skillets date from soon after the death of Thomas Pyke, with whom Street was in partnership with from 1773, after they together took over Bayley's business, and Street's own death in 1785. Often numbered according to capacity, III, IV, V, VI & IX, this, an example of number III, has a capacity of approximately 2 pints.
