A distinguished pair of French Renaissance Revival oak armchairs dating from the late nineteenth century, circa 1890–1900. Beautifully crafted from solid oak and richly carved throughout, these elegant chairs perfectly capture the craftsmanship and decorative sophistication that characterised French furniture at the turn of the century.


The substantial oak frames display finely executed scroll-form front supports, boldly turned legs, and decorative stretchers united by an exquisitely carved pierced front rail centred with flowing foliate ornament. The sculptural silhouette reflects the enduring influence of sixteenth-century French Renaissance furniture, interpreted through the refined craftsmanship of the late Victorian and Belle Époque periods.


The chairs have been sympathetically upholstered at a later date in an attractive woven fabric featuring an elegant classical motif.
