A dramatic and sculptural original pair of gothic revival armchairs.


Circa 1870.


Sculpted from solid pine with medieval style arches throughout the backrests and arms.


In original black 'ebonised' painted finish.


The drop in seat pads retain their original wool stuffed seats. Finished in a warm red Harris wool fabric, an extremely close match to the original remnants found on the chairs.


The chairs are believed to be Welsh, sourced from a chapel in the North West of the country - where they had supposedly been since new. The more unusual use of wool in the seats would align with the Welsh provenance too.


Structurally sound, with some minor scratches and chips to be expected, one or two small missing elements to the carved finials.
