A stumpwork panel or sampler depicting Charles I and Queen Henrietta Maria.


Dating from the mid-17th century.


The stitched, stuffed and backed decoration has been hand sewn onto a silk backing.


It is thought that these samplers would have been sold as kits, with the design pre-drawn and all the materials included. Often created at the time as a way of showing loyalty or mourning the royal family in what was a very turbulent time in Britain.


Possibly re-backed at a later stage, some slightly muted colours, very small crack to glass in frame.
