Item Description
A wonderful, large scale 17th Century French walnut coffer with mother of pearl inlay. Having a rectangular hinged top with original ironwork which opens to reveal a candle box to the left and ample storage. This lovely coffer has the unusual designs of fish inlaid on the top and the front, with various geometric and circle designs as borders and decoration. Having original carrying handles to the sides and large dovetail joints joining the sides. Supported by a large plinth base and stands on squashed bun feet.
A very handsome trunk featuring a design we have not seen before. It is a good size and good quality, heavy coffer retaining a beautiful colour and patination.
Coffers like this were the main item of furniture in most French households of this time.
