Iron tables are a popular choice for many reasons. The nature of the materials used to make them means they are usually hard-wearing and offer a more individual style of table.
Butchers tables are a good example of practicality and beauty being combined. Originally used in a shop environment, they needed to be sturdy and strong and are therefore usually very well made. They can be quite ornate and often come with decoration that marks them out from other pieces by showing a Bull or Cows head for instance. The tops were marble, another reason they were sturdy, and those that retain this, will be more desirable. They have also been re-purposed for the modern age, going from being used for a specific purpose, they are now usually just decorative tables.
Industrial tables are also often well made for the same reasons, ie they would have to stand up to daily hard use. Their appeal also lies in that they offer a different style option, which particularly suits large industrialised spaces such as factories and other indusrial buildings converted for home or office use.
Many garden tables are made from cast or wrought iron and if you are going to leave such a table outside, then do protect it in the winter with a cover or a coat of suitable paint. Some of these type of tables can be unexpectedly intricate in design and well known makers such as Coalbrookdale and Arras can demand high prices for particular pieces.
