It is believed that the first bronze items were used in Asia in about 3500BC, so quite some time ago. Today it is still a very popular and sought after medium in the Arts. It is a durable material and like copper, over time will attain a deeper colour and patina and if you have a bronze garden statue or item, it will eventually go the most beautiful verdigris colour. With any material that is cast, it is the quality of the casting that makes a huge difference as it is the detail, or lack of, that will also determine, as well as subject matter, the value and appeal of a piece.
Metal covers materials such as copper, cast and wrought iron, zinc, lead and alloy - alloy is a combination of metals.
