Troughs come in all sizes, but are usually rectangular or square, sometimes circular. Nowadays they are used mainly for planting out or for use as water features. Usually carved stone, that will have weathered to create a great patina over the years, you can also get copper or cast iron ones as well.
Staddles stones are the mushroom shaped stone pieces that were originally used to support the base of rural barn buildings, so that the grain could be stored above ground to stop rodents being able to get to it.
Stone balls or spheres were used to sit atop piers on gates or walls, but are commonly used today to mark out a driveway or just as ornament in a garden.
