Antique sideboards are often large statement furniture pieces and you will find a good selection on the DC.
The earliest Sideboard or Buffet was apparently made as a specific piece of furniture in the 18th Century and is traditionally used in the dining room to store items relating to the serving of meals.
With the trend in more open plan living, you would think they might not be a popular piece of furniture in modern homes, but their practical uses and size actually work well with current day living, as they are used to support the TV and even records players, which, like the sideboard, has made a comeback. You will find them in the large and spacious homes in the U.S. and Europe. An antique pine kitchen dresser is often seen in smaller homes and makes the ideal place for displaying collections of kitchenalia.
What is the difference between a sideboard and a buffet? Well, put simply, if it is used in the dining room it is called a buffet and if in the living areas, it's called a sideboard.
