Item Description
A Fine 18th Century Louis XVI Period French Walnut and Parquetry Commode with Original Marble Top.
The commode of typical Louis XVI rectangular form and standing on tapering square section legs. The high quality, subtle decoration is of fine parquetry, firstly in the use of geometric matched veneers to the drawer fronts and sides and secondly in the use of contrasting dark and light inlay around each drawer front, side panel and to the pilasters. The metalwork escutcheon plates have swagged detail and floral handles. The commode also has a very high quality and original purple and speckled marble top, visually very similar to Egyptian porphyry
