Item Description
A Fine, Small 19th Century French Mahogany Display Cabinet or Bookcase.
Of rectangular form with rounded corners, this piece has a sleek and attractive silhouette. The sides are formed from two pieces of bookmatched timber. The cabinet has a slightly projecting cornice with moulded detail and then two large doors which run nearly the entire length of the piece. The doors employ lovely astragal glazing bars designed around central circular paterae. This particular glazing pattern does not obscure much of the glazing, meaning that this piece makes a perfect display cabinet - very little of the interior is obscured from outside. Inside the doors are a variety of adjustable shelves. At the base of the two doors is a long drawer concealed in the apron and perfect for overflow storage. The bookcase stands on flattened bun feet to the front and square feet to the rear.
This is an extremely attractive piece of furniture with beautiful veneers and the glazing pattern is very decorative.
