Item Description
Lorenzo dal Torrione - four female statues, mid-20th century in age
Each is produced in cast marble, with a the Signature "Dal Torrione" to each base. Age related patina from being in the English elements for the past 60 years or so, lichen marks, stains some very minor abrasions. It appears an arm has been possibly been lost at some point.....but strangely doesn't seem to effect the decorative appeal of the piece in question.
The sculptor Lorenzo dal Torrione owned his studio in the Italian town of Pietrasanta near Pisa. Since 1952 dal Torrione has been active as a sculptor. Before that he studied with the famous Urbano Buratti. His artistic career began with the creation of clay models of sacred figures, and he also devoted himself to funeral art. Since 1966 he has been working in his own studio. From the 1970s he changed his sculptural subjects and since then has increasingly created statues in classicist style in alabaster and marble. Dal Torrione received further commissions from bronze foundries in Pietrasanta, for which he created models, moulds and models. In addition, there are various church orders from other European countries. The cooperation with the sculptor Sirio Navari also proved to be artistically very productive.
Each statue is approx 118/120cm in height
