19th Century painted pine chest of drawers

19th Century hand painted scumbled pine chest of drawers. Chest painted to resemble wood veneer, the chest comprises two short and 3 long drawers with ebonised handles, the top which is also painted has a chamfered front edge detail. British, circa 1860.

Condition: A chest of sound construction, the painted finish is in good condition and has been waxed to stabilise it and bring out the true colour, all the drawers run smoothly, the drawers have locks but no keys. You will note scratches to the original paint in the photos, the surface of the top has a wonderful dry paint finish and signs of use as only a painted chest can develop. This finish which is called scumbled was painted in water-based paint and then finished with polish.
