Item Description
An outstanding and very beautiful Travelling Writing Desk made of Burr Walnut in the reign of Queen Anne (1702-1714). With its original brass carrying handles this was designed for use by a lawyer or politician who would have taken it with him when travelling across the country by coach-and-horses.
The Writing Desk has its original lock and key and also comes with an independent rectangular framed walnut base with baize underlay which was possibly made at a later date so that the desk would have extra support when placed on a table in a home.
A rare and exquisite piece of furniture from the beginning of the 18th century. which comes from a personal collection. In very good condition. Measures 36 inches x 16 high x 20 deep ( 92 x 41 x 51 cms)
