A grand and imposing glazed metal hanging lantern. French, c.1900.
A beautifully made French lantern combining pressed panels and cast decorative elements including a stylised fish, or serpent, on each corner. Produced with the crisp detailing typical of early 20th‑century metalwork. The frame has strong architectural lines softened by scrolling and foliate ornament, all carrying a deep, honest patina from age and use. Originally made for gas and now converted for electric illumination.
