Item Description
Beautiful Georgian oak and ash country settle c.1800. High backrest, slightly angled for comfort with the long ash back boards continuing to the ground to stop draughts when the settle was drawn up to the fire. Note how the boards have been steamed and bent at the seat height to create the angle. Oak frame with sloping arms on chamfered supports over the seat also in oak. Low stretchers at the sides for strength. Superb rustic character with exceptional colour and patina to the timber, retaining traces of dark red paint. Repairs to the seat and the left hand arm support. Excellent condition, restored cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
