Item Description

These authentic part glazed earthenware pots have a beautifully rich colouration. Confit Jars originated from Southern France in the 19th century and were used to preserve food, mainly duck. The glazed upper body was the part of the pot that was not buried in the ground, the lower jar was wrapped in cloth, then buried to keep the contents cool. An iconic French jar, these traditional confit pots or jars with their striking yellow glaze was captured by Vincent Van Gogh’s painting of the sunflowers, representing a staple piece of ceramics that was used in the french kitchens in the 1800’s. Fabulous addition to any house or garden.
