Item Description

The attractive pottery vase of gourd form, painted with foliate and geometric designs in blue, turquoise and yellow and surviving from the third quarter of nineteenth century Morocco.

There are old repairs as photographed, colour run and some chipped losses.

Moroccans have a preference for strong colours that lends a definite personality to their wares with the tendency to use a multitude of mosaic and fabrics. The intent behind all Moroccan pieces is that they are designed to radiate an aura of the tropics, to be an extension of their natural outer world.

An authentic and honest antique example in a world of contemporary reproductions.
