Item Description
An exceptional and richly carved giltwood wall mirror, of Italian origin, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century.
This piece features a gracefully pierced frame with flowing scrollwork, acanthus leaves, and a central neoclassical urn crest. The frame retains its original water-gilded finish, now beautifully worn with age, revealing traces of red bole beneath the gold leaf.
The mirror plate is original mercury-backed glass, exhibiting mild foxing.
The back of the frame is composed of wide, hand-hewn boards, with early joinery and original nails intact, further confirming the mirror’s authenticity and age. Circa 1780.
