This attractive rug belongs to a group of carpets specifically commissioned in west Persia during the late 19th/early 20th century to complement European furnishing tastes. A beautiful antique Ziegler Mahal carpet with a simple monochrome overall drawing. The rare ivory field provides a great contrast to the array of colours including various greens, terracotta and a touch of grey - all natural vegetable-dyed which have aged nicely.
This early Ziegler Mahal carpet is in well-preserved condition for everyday use with a slight age-related patina. The various borders including the plain ivory one are still present on all sides.
