Item Description
A stunning Grand Tour bronze after the marble by Michelangelo (1475-1564) from the tomb of Giuliano de Medici, c.1900.
The marble of Giuliano de Medici (1479–1516) is a 1.68m tall marble sculpture by Michelangelo, dating to 1526–1534. It forms part of the decorative scheme of the Medici Chapel in San Lorenzo in Florence. It is the central statue of the tomb of Giuliano, and an idealised portrait of Giuliano de Medici.
The bronze sits atop a weighted black marble base with a bronze cherub set into the central plinth. The plinth shows wear commensurate with age with some small chips to the extremities and light discolouration in areas but overall remains attractive and striking. The baize to the base is absent. The bronze itself remains in a very good condition throughout.
