Item Description
An impressive pair of shapely C19th carved giltwood open armchairs of generous proportions, the backs in the form of adjoining C-scrolls with cabochons below, leading onto elaborately reeded scroll arms and upholstered seats, all raised on sabre legs with acanthus carving, concealing sunken brass castors. In good original condition with no breaks or repairs and still retaining the original gilding. Circa 1840. The quality and style of these suggest a strong attribution to Gillows, as these chairs bear resemblance to suites in Wentworth Woodhouse & Tatton Park.
