The Corneau brothers Emile and Alfred became business partners in 1846, by 1856 they had set up in the Petit-Bois district of Charleville, and 3 years later in 1859 they opened foundry Corneau Frères, which speacialised in household cast iron ornamental items and heating appliances.
By 1870 Emile focused his time on politics becoming mayor of Charleville in 1879, and a year later in 1880 he became a senator, leaving his brother Alfred to run the foundry, which is when many pieces became stamped with the Alfred Corneau A Charleville mark, this foundry later came under the control of Albert Deville, the son-in law of Alfred Corneau.
