Item Description
This is a fine example of an early 18th century Queen Anne walnut bureau.
The bureau is constructed from richly figured walnut veneers, with a warm, honey-toned patina that has developed beautifully over time, highlighting the natural grain and depth of the wood.
The sloping fall front features crossbanding with featherbanded inlay, opening to reveal a fitted interior with an arrangement of drawers, pigeonholes, and a central cupboard, ideal for writing implements, documents, and other personal effects. The writing surface is in excellent condition and has a drop well storage compartment.
Below the fall front are two short over 2 graduated long drawers, with swan-neck handles with decorative backplates. The drawers are oak-lined and run well, reflecting the high quality of construction associated with Queen Anne furniture.
The bureau stands on bold bun feet, which contribute to its solid stance and overall aesthetic appeal. The proportions are elegant yet practical, making this piece not only a beautiful example of period furniture but also highly functional for modern use.
This bureau is in excellent antique condition with minor age-related marks and wear consistent with its age.
