Item Description
Diminutive and characterful joined oak and elm chest of drawers with good colour and the original wonderful patina. Full of charm. English, Charles II period. Circa 1670.
There are minimal traces of historic woodworm to the elm drawers, treated as a precaution. A couple of small historic repairs are present, one to each end of the back stiles and to an edge of a drawer, as expected over the centuries.
The handles have been changed several times; the current set dates to the Edwardian period, likely fitted at the same time the bun feet were added. The cottage cut to the sides was probably also carried out during this later phase. The chest will pass through most entrances due to this cottage cut. The top has a gap in the middle, this has some movement to it but perfectly stable.
The three drawers run smoothly on their original elm runners. A very solid and usable chest of drawers that is around 350 years old.
Delivery included to mainland England, Wales and southern Scotland.
