Item Description

Rare Set of Eight 1930’s Dicon Nance Dining Chairs – St.Ives Studio

A very rare set of beautifully, hand made solid ash wood ladder back dining chairs by the designer, Dicon Nance, the brother of Robin Nance in St. Ives, Cornwall. All eight dining chairs are in superb, clean and strong condition and all are complete with the original seagrass rushed seats, that are all intact and strong. The designers monogram D.N. is found on most of the chairs. They are very interesting cabinet makers who worked closely with Bernard Leach designing and making the famous pottery wheels and artist Ben Nicholson whom he made the canvas stretchers for his paintings. He also made all Barbara Hepworth’s sculpture and display stands, Dicon Nance was her assistant until 1971. A very rare long set of eight beautifully made 1930’s dining chairs made by a very interesting Cornish maker. Seat heights are 45cm.
