Antique Persian Sultanabad carpet, Ziegler type, all over design on a rare golden-yellow background. The background colour can be compared on one of the photos with golden leaves in autumn.
All natural, vegetable dyes, stylised angular design, wonderful folk art.
Very good condition, good even pile.
Dates from about 1900.
Large size: 10ft 6ins x 14ft 1ins / 320 cm x 430 cm.
Beautiful Sultanabad rugs were very much in demand from the late 19th to early 20th century for export to New York and London, many commissioned by the British-Swiss company Ziegler & Co, and are still very popular with interior designers - though they've become harder to find.
