Item Description
A 19th century French wall / overmantle mirror of slightly larger proportions. The inner raised moulding to this splendid mirror frame is exquisitely decorated with a continuous foliate design of swirling leaves and flowers etched into a luscious gilded background. The original gold leaf has remained in remarkable condition with only small areas of natural wear revealing the rich terracotta base colours beneath only enhancing its natural history and use over the past near two centuries. The flat wide base is complimented by a graceful arched top and would work perfectly free hanging as a wall mirror or equally impressive as a large elegant overmantle. Original gilding. Solid backboard. Later pristine glass plate. French gilded mirror circa 1840.
