Item Description

An antique original impressionist oil on canvas landscape painting by Alfred Joseph Warne-Browne RSO NSA (1855-1915) who was a London-based artist who moved to St. Uny close to St. Ives around 1890 where he specialised in seascapes.

He was a member of the Newlyn Society of Artists and exhibited quite prolifically at the Newlyn Art Gallery as well as at the Royal Academy, Royal Institute, the Whitechapel and St. James Art Galleries in London. His work can be seen in many public and private collections worldwide and he has a good following in the USA, Australia and New Zealand.

This example of his work is large in scale and really captures the essence of light at dusk over this Cornish headland using skilful impressionist brushstrokes and a sensitive colour palette.

Dating from the late 19th-early 20th century, probably sometime between 1890-1905.

Signed to the lower left.

In its original and stunning deep-set arts and crafts carved giltwood frame with naturalistic oak leaf motifs, a work of art in its own right!

The painting itself is in very good condition, other than some craquelure to the surface and some very minor wear commensurate with age there are no significant issues, rips, tears or restorations.

Overall measurements: 108cm x 83cm x 6cm. The canvas itself measures 76cm x 51cm
