A vintage original pencil and charcoal study.

A drawing after the original artwork by Honoré Daumier, French (1808-1879). The original, which constitutes No. 22 of ‘Les Gens de Justice’ (The People of Justice) series which is titled 'Il defend l'orphelin et la veuve, a moins pourtant qu'il n'attaque la veuve et l'orphelin.’ (He defends the orphan and widow unless he attacks the widow and orphan).

Drawn in an accomplished way quickly and confidently to great effect.

Probably dating to the early to mid-20th century.

Framed and glazed in a simple black frame.

The drawing is in great vintage condition with no real damage and only very minimal wear consistent with age, the frame has some wear but nothing too serious. There is a small area of discolouration on the mount.
