Item Description

Early 20th century gesso over pine and articulated puppet

A very cool example of a folk-art gesso over pine and metal early 20th century articulated puppet of a skeleton figure. This figure does not stand alone and would originally have numerous cotton threads attached to each limb to animate its movement. The ribs are made from thin metal cut sheets and the rest of the figure has gesso/plaster over carved pine sections. An articulated lead weighted bottom jaw would have allowed the mouth to open and close.

Dimensions in inches: H 12” x W 4” x D 2”
