Item Description
An exceptional and rare late Victorian Reformed Gothic washstand in beautifully figured maple, the design attributed to Charles Bevan, with original Minton ceramic tiles designed by Dr Christopher Dresser.
Dating to the late 19th century, this striking piece combines the geometric forms of the Reformed Gothic style with the decorative influences of the Aesthetic Movement. The exceptional contrasting wood inlay features intricate geometric motifs throughout, complemented by finely turned column supports, an architectural tiled gallery and a substantial white marble top. Two generously sized frieze drawers retain their decorative brass drop-ring handles, while the lower stretcher incorporates a beautifully tiled and functional shelf, repeating Dresser's distinctive floral designs.
An unusually decorative and versatile piece of Victorian furniture, equally suited as a grand hall table, console or double vanity unit for a bathroom. Standing on shaped feet with china castors.
