Item Description
Georgian wrought iron pedestrian gate with original working latch. Its fine late Georgian style came from 1790 craftsmanship. Its twists, scrolls, and wavering shapes allow for its design to truly stand out, perhaps in the garden of an English countryside home or unconventional townhouse.
Georgian Wrought Iron Garden Gate
Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
