Item Description
A large antique Medieval style late 19th century stained glass window, originally from a church in northern England. Three hand painted detailed flowers, thought to be a stylised Tudor Rose design, sit at the heart of this piece. It incorporates both ecclesiastical and medieval style, accompanied by vibrant vivid colours of red, blue, green, and yellow.
This Victorian style window would make a stunning feature flooded with natural morning light in any home, perhaps for a sympathetically decorated converted chapel or ecclesiastical building.
Antique stained glass
Stained glass is made using a traditional method first recorded in the late 11th century. The process begins with creating a drawing of the design, first as a smaller scale version and then in full-size, known as a cartoon. Next, solid pieces of coloured glass are cut before decorating textured glass with enamel paints and using lead or copper frames to hold the glass together. Due to their fragility, antique stained glass windows more than 100 years old are a brilliant find, offering a glimpse into styles and skills of times gone by.
