Item Description

Pair of original Victorian elaborately crafted wrought iron driveway gates crafted in circa 1880. These 19th century gates do not disappoint in size and design. Rows of elongated scrolls and swirls are matched structurally with the original working stay, which has an interesting likeness to a shepherd's staff. Their working latch is accompanied by modern hinge components, that will allow it to be fitted easily at its next home. These impressive gates would be ideal for an English countryside property.

Wrought Iron Gates

Gates and ironwork made from wrought iron have stood the test of time. This traditional method of craftsmanship sees the metal heated to a high temperature and then hammered into shape by a blacksmith’s hand, creating a robust and durable finish. The more wrought iron is worked, the stronger it becomes, making some of the most ornate antique gates some of the strongest. Large scale commercial production of wrought iron products ended in the mid 1970s due to the expensive and time-consuming nature of blacksmithing, making wrought iron gates true antiques, showcasing talented craftsmanship of the past.
