Item Description

A satin birch clothes brush made by Davis Burrow and Sons of Leeds, stamped with their details to the underside of the handle, the back of the brush, which covers the workings of the bristles, is fixed neatly with small brass screws. Made circa 1900.
10 1/4in x 3 5/8 in
The brush making company was established in 1861 by Mr Davis Burrow and by 1882 the business was employing 38 men, 8 boys, and 9 girls. They made all kinds of brushes, including paintbrushes, and supplied many of the railway companies of the time, eventually supplying brushes to British Rail. Perhaps used in Great Western Railway hotels or alternatively it could  also have been used to keep the station staff in tidy order.
