Item Description

Monogram printed canvas, later over decorated with white paint, with spaced wooden lathes and polished brass fittings. Made circa 1915 and thereafter the property for the use of Her Highness Princess Victoria of Schleswig Holstein.
w:40 inches x 22 inches x 22.5 inches
Princess Helena Victoria was born at Frogmore House, near Windsor Castle in 1870. Her mother was Princess Helena, fifth child and third daughter of Queen Victoria. In July of 1917, King George V changed the name of the Royal Family to The House of Windsor and relinquished the use of German titles, styles and surnames.
Princess Victoria followed her mother’s example in working for various charities, most notably YMCA and Young Women’s Christian Association. During WWI she founded the YWCA Women’s Auxillery Force. As its president she visited British Troops in France and obtained the permission of Lord Kitchener to arrange entertainments for them.
