Pair of 1930's Mirrors with Shanghai 'Beauties'

Unusual relic of 1930's Shanghai Society in China is this pair of Publicity or Tourism Mirrors depicting Chinese beauties against a background illustration of a riverside scene of Shanghai. The pictures are paper prints which have been set behind shaped windows in the mirrors. I found this pair in a fleamarket in France and assume they are from the 1930's when Shanghai was a famous international city and a hub for the wealthy social set. The mirrors are very decorative and in good condition with some fading of the silvering at the edges where the mirror meets the frame.
(In fact a Chinese customer who came to my shop told me that the mirrors were subtle advertisements for a brand of Tea, the women being famous national symbols of the day- I know no more than this !)

Renowned for unearthing pieces with a rare magical quality, he sources the original, the one-off and the inspiration for regular long time clients and dealers or for newer contacts seeking either something beautiful for their homes or just the making of a good investment.

A visit to Relic Antiques 'Antique Warehouse' is guaranteed to open a door to a star quality stock. Expect the unexpected, from simple craftsman made pieces, or the flippantly amusing like period shop signs and fairground art, to the more sophisticated such as charming paintings and unusual examples of country furniture.
