Item Description

A Magnificent Mid 19th-Century Victorian Period Indigenous Specimen Wood Marquetry Table of Circular Form, circa 1850

This fine quality Victorian occasional side table showcases an exceptional geometric circular shaped marquetry top, inlaid with a complex star motif composed of triangles, diamonds and circular elements. The design is meticulously executed in a variety of indigenous specimen woods, including yew, walnut and elm, creating a rich contrast of tones and grains and a striking overall starburst effect.
The edge of the shaped top is finished with a diagonal banded feather or chevron inlay, providing an elegant frame to the central design. The frieze is veneered in burr walnut, adding further depth and decorative interest.
The top is raised on a finely turned and carved classical column, enriched with subtle detailing, and supported on three carved scrolling cabriole legs, giving the piece both stability and great visual presence.
An outstanding example of Victorian craftsmanship, this marquetry table combines sculptural form with intricate decorative work and would make a superb focal point in any refined interior, traditional or contemporary.
