Item Description

Mid 19th Century large and highly decorative French railway wall clock in patinated tôle with brass bezel and suspension finial, retaining its original enamel dial signed Paul Garnier, Horloger de la Marine.

The dial includes Roman numerals and inner 24-hour railway numerals, a characteristic feature of early station clocks. Later quartz movement.

Jean-Paul Garnier (died 14 February 1869), known as Paul Garnier, was a celebrated French watchmaker and mechanic, best known for supplying railway station clocks throughout France and Romania during the Mid 19th Century. His clocks are noted for their precision, robust construction and elegant industrial design. An evocative and sculptural industrial timepiece with exceptional wall presence and rich untouched patina
