Item Description

A handsome pair of late 19th Century French Riviera silver-plated hotel serving platters, each stamped HOTEL BRISTOL BEAULIEU to the underside.

Of substantial commercial quality, the platters feature a finely cast rope-twist border and restrained Belle Époque styling characteristic of luxury hotel silver from the turn of the twentieth century. The Hotel Bristol at Beaulieu-sur-Mer was one of the grand luxury Riviera hotels of the Belle Époque, constructed between 1897 and 1899 for Sir Blundell Maple. The interiors, furnishings and tableware were supplied by Maple & Co., the celebrated London makers and furnishers, placing these platters firmly within the golden age of Riviera hospitality.

The pair retain an appealing time worn surface with authentic wear from decades of service, adding to their decorative character and historical charm. Circa 1898–1910. Sold as a pair.
