Item Description
A handsome nineteenth-century French Empire style open bookcase, beautifully veneered in richly figured rosewood and decorated with finely cast gilt mounts.
The bookcase is surmounted by a shaped pediment centred by an ormolu mount, with further gilt mounts to the corners and uprights, all above five adjustable shelves providing generous display space. The lower section incorporates a series of vertical divisions, ideal for storing folios, magazines, records or larger books.
The warm rosewood veneers display attractive figuring throughout, complemented by restrained Empire-inspired detailing including split bobbin mouldings, gilt mounts and clean architectural lines. The open design makes the piece equally suitable as a library bookcase, display cabinet or shelving unit for books, ceramics or decorative objects.
An elegant and practical nineteenth-century French bookcase of good proportions, offering substantial storage while retaining a refined decorative presence.
