Item Description
Charming 19th-Century French Walnut Radassier with Thick Rush Seat
A particularly attractive mid-19th century French radassier (ladder back bench), handcrafted in solid walnut with a thick rush seat, made in Provence near Avignon circa 1850.
This double arm Provençal bench comfortably seats three and features an elegant ladder back design, combining simplicity with refined rustic charm. The original patina to the walnut and the intact, beautifully aged thick rush seat give the piece great character while remaining in good, solid condition throughout. Of very good quality and an excellent, practical size, it makes a real feature in any room. Perfect for an entrance hall or mud room, along a kitchen wall, at the foot of a bed, or as a distinctive dining bench beside a table. Seat height is 41 cm.
The design is particularly unusual compared with other examples, giving it a distinctive presence and making it a highly decorative yet functional piece of country house furniture. Equally at home in a period interior or providing a striking contrast in a contemporary setting, this 19th-century French radassier is a true collector’s piece with charm, warmth and quality.
