Item Description
A finely crafted model of an early sailing ship. c.1890.
A beautifully detailed wooden model of a three‑masted Royal Navy vessel, built in the 19th century and retaining a wonderfully aged, authentic presence. Measuring an impressive 93cm in length, it has real impact as a display piece. The hull is planked and painted in the traditional black‑and‑white scheme, with open gun ports and miniature cannons along the deck. The stern carries faded gilt lettering - a charming period detail - and the rigging is part‑set with an array of lines, blocks and spars.
The quarter gallery and stern are decorated in gilt, and the model sits on a lattice‑style dry‑dock base that adds sculptural interest and emphasises its scale. Weathering to the paintwork and timbers gives the model a warm, timeworn character without compromising its form or presence.
A distinctive and atmospheric example of 19th‑century maritime craftsmanship, full of decorative appeal and historical charm.
