Item Description
Created in the heart of the 1960s, this sculptural bowl is a perfect testament to the brutalist movement applied to the fire arts. It captivates with the magnetic intensity of its color palette and its bold aesthetic stance, based on the contrast of materials.
Standing 9 cm tall with a large diameter of 35 cm, the work reveals a remarkable interplay of textures. The inner basin is covered with a thick, deep, and vibrant blue glaze, whose nuances are reminiscent of precious stones. The wide rim is traversed by an elegant network of natural enamel crazing. This technique, resulting from a perfectly mastered firing process, brings a true touch of soul to the object.
In stark contrast to this brilliant shine, the reverse of the bowl presents an intentionally raw, rocky, and mineral appearance, typical of Northern European creations of this period. The piece also bears a signature incised into the raw material under the base (including the word "straat"), attesting to an authentic and singular Flemish or Dutch studio work.
A decorative object with a strong character, in excellent condition, ideal for bringing a colorful and mineral touch to a contemporary interior
