Octagonal Lucite And Chrome Coffee Table, Maison Jansen

An octagonal coffee table by the celebrated Parisian house Maison Jansen, distinguished by its generous tabletop of clear lucite set within a polished chrome frame of octagonal profile.

The translucent surface, supported by four slender chrome legs joined by a lower stretcher shelf in matching lucite, creates an impression of remarkable lightness while displaying an assured structural solidity. The chromework is executed with the precision and refinement that characterised Jansen's most accomplished mid-century output.

Maison Jansen, founded in Paris in 1880 and renowned across the world for its exacting standards and eclectic stylistic range, embraced the vocabulary of the Space Age in the late 1960s and 1970s with characteristic confidence. The use of acrylic — then prized for its jewel-like clarity and sculptural versatility — in tandem with polished chrome reflected the firm's perpetual dialogue between classical tradition and contemporary materials. Tables of this model were prized by an international clientele seeking furniture that was at once dramatic and discreet, transparent yet undeniably present.

In very good condition consistent with age, displaying minor surface wear commensurate with half a century of use. A piece of genuine provenance and design pedigree, appealing equally to collectors of mid-century decorative arts and to interior designers seeking a statement object that does not overwhelm a space.
