Item Description

This delightful pair of small ceramic plates brilliantly illustrates the vitality and joy of life that characterize post-war French pottery. Strongly imbued with the Mediterranean spirit and the artistic revival driven by the Vallauris workshops, these pieces are perfectly in line with the creations of the famous ceramist Roger Capron or the Madoura studio.

Each plate reveals a hand-painted animal motif, outlined with expressive black strokes and filled with vibrantly colored glazes. One features a proud rooster with abundant plumage, highlighted in red, blue, and yellow—a quintessential motif of the modernist bestiary. The other showcases a stylized green and yellow bird perched on a branch against a subtly speckled purple background. The brushstrokes, free, spontaneous, and deliberately naive, elevate these works to the status of true small ceramic paintings.

Offered in beautiful vintage condition, this colorful set will bring an undeniable sunny and artistic touch to your decor. These pieces can be used as precious catch-alls, displayed on a console table, or fitted with plate hangers to create a very "Mid-Century" wall composition.
