Item Description
This champagne bucket (or ice bucket) adopts a slightly flared cylindrical shape. The structural design relies on a metal vat (acting as an insulated receptacle) entirely sheathed in two-tone leather. This artisanal work requires great technical mastery of leather covering (gainerie). The tan leather body is framed by darker contrasting brown borders, firmly assembled with rigorous "saddle" stitching. The upper lip reveals a gilded metal (brass) rim, matching the two dark-patinated lateral ring handles.
The main face features an applied oval leather medallion, gold-stamped with the inscription "CHAMPAGNE GAUTHIER EPERNAY". Maison Gauthier, founded in 1858 in Épernay, was one of the historic and prestigious Champagne houses before ceasing its independent activity in the second half of the 20th century. Service objects from this house, especially those featuring a luxurious leather finish (recalling the aesthetic codes of Jacques Adnet for office furniture), are highly sought-after collector's items today in the world of oenology and tableware.
Condition report: Good overall condition. The leather displays a natural patina of use, with some slight rubbing and superficial marks inherent to its handling (particularly near the borders), guaranteeing its age. The metal interior is clean. This timeless bar accessory will bring a distinct "Gentleman's Club" touch to a serving cart or a reception table.
