Item Description
**Arthur Wardle Exmoor British Moorland Landscape Oil Painting**
*Richly textured moorland and luminous sky give this small Wardle remarkable presence.*
*An atmospheric Exmoor landscape with both decorative and art-historical appeal.*
**Description**
An exceptionally atmospheric small-scale British landscape by Arthur Wardle (1864–1949).
The foreground is richly worked in heather purple, russet, ochre, earthy brown and moss green, opening into a luminous blue sky filled with softly modelled clouds.
Signed “ARTHUR WARDLE” lower right, the work offers an uncommon opportunity to appreciate the landscape painting of an artist better known for sporting dogs and exotic wildlife.
Wardle’s connection with Exmoor is documented through oil studies made in the landscape. His known oeuvre also includes moorland compositions and standalone landscape material.
